Undersheriff John F. Dempsey
After graduating from Madison High School, Undersheriff Dempsey enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon discharge, he joined the Madison Police Department. Two years into his stint as a patrolman, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office sought Dempsey out and offered him the opportunity to join its ranks as an undercover narcotics detective. During his 23-year career with the Prosecutor’s Office, Dempsey served in many different capacities, ultimately rising to the rank of Deputy Chief before departing for the Sheriff’s Office. Now in his 13th year as Undersheriff in charge of the Bureau of Law Enforcement, Dempsey has proven himself as a strong manager and leader.
Undersheriff Dempsey has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Business. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has received his New Jersey State Public Manager Certification. He resides in Morris Township with his wife Denise and son Richard.
Chief Thomas G. Baxter
Chief Thomas Baxter began his career with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office twenty-five years ago as an officer. In 1994, he became Chief Sheriff’s Officer for the Bureau of Law Enforcement.
Noted for his accomplishments in the Criminal Investigation Division, Chief Baxter has worked on many high profile cases and testified as an expert on fingerprints, blood spatter and firearms. He was involved in a 1983 homicide investigation in which his unit received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Criminal Investigation for its work.
He is a graduate of Roxbury High School, the County College of Morris, the Morris County Police Academy, the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and is a Certified New Jersey State Public Manager. Chief Baxter resides in Morristown with his wife Deborah, daughter Jennifer, and son Gregory.
Bureau of Corrections
Undersheriff Ralph McGrane
Undersheriff Ralph McGrane served for twenty-four years in high echelon command and supervisory positions in the nation’s largest municipal detention service, the New York City Department of Corrections. Professional career positions include Bureau Chief, Assistant Chief, Warden, Deputy Warden, Assistant Deputy Warden, Correctional Captain and line Correction Officer.
In November 1998, he was appointed to the position of Undersheriff for the Bureau of Corrections in Morris County, New Jersey. All of these positions require leadership in the operational control of male and female detainees and sentenced inmates; supervision of a mixed gender work force and administrative responsibility for the maintenance of full-service physical plant operations, including security and environmental health management, food service, fire safety, inmate transportation to courts and hospitals, inmate medical clinics, and the full range of inmate program services.
Warden Frank Corrente
Warden Corrente is proof that diligence and hard work pay off. He joined the Morris County Sheriff’s Office in 1984 and worked his way up the ranks to become Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Warden and then was appointed Warden of the Morris County Correctional Facility in the fall of 2003.
As Warden, Frank oversees the day-to-day operations of the facility. In this capacity, he is responsible for the overall management and administration of staff, directing procedures and practices relating to the custody, discipline, and welfare of offenders in the facility, and ensuring that policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are enforced.
Frank is a graduate of Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and received certification as a New Jersey State Public Manager in April of 2002. Warden Corrente resides in Succasunna with his wife Joann and three children.
